Hello and welcome. Cosy Hook Corner is a crochet blog for anyone who wants clear, friendly instructions without the confusion.
Why this blog exists
There is a frustrating problem online: many crocheters in the UK find a lovely pattern, only to realise halfway through that it was written in American terms and their stitches are the wrong height. A UK double crochet is a US single crochet, a UK treble is a US double, and it is easy to get lost.
Every pattern and tutorial here is written in standard UK crochet terminology, with a conversion chart on every guide so readers who learned with US terms can follow along too.
What you will find here
- Free patterns for blankets, wearables, baby gifts and seasonal decorations.
- Beginner tutorials that explain one technique at a time, such as the magic ring, treble crochet and joining granny squares.
- Reference guides to hook sizes, yarn weights and UK vs US terms.
How the patterns are written
- UK terms first, with US equivalents in every abbreviation list.
- Stitch counts at the end of each row or round, so you can check your work as you go.
- UK yarn weights (4-ply, DK, aran, chunky) and metric hook sizes.
If you spot a mistake in a pattern or get stuck on a row, please get in touch. Corrections are made as quickly as possible.
How this site is funded
